How to Sell Your Car for Cash in Calgary (Even If You Don’t Buy From Us)
Want to sell your car fast in Calgary without the hassle of a private sale? Here's how selling to a dealership works, what affects your offer, and how to get a free estimate.

Selling a car privately in Calgary can mean weeks of listings, no-shows and haggling. Selling to a dealership is faster and simpler. At All Nicks Auto, we buy vehicles for cash — and you don’t have to buy a car from us to sell us yours.
How selling your car to All Nicks Auto works
There are two easy ways to get started:
- Visit us in person at 2707 Centre Ave SE during business hours (Monday to Friday 8 AM – 5 PM, Saturday 9 AM – 4 PM).
- Request a free quote online through our Sell Your Vehicle page.
The online form asks for:
- Year, make, model and trim
- Mileage (kilometres)
- Your name, email, phone and postal code
- How you’d like us to contact you — call, text or email
We’ll get back to you with an estimate of what we’ll pay for your vehicle.
What affects how much your car is worth
Every vehicle is different, but these factors matter most:
| Factor | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Year, make and model | Demand in the Calgary market varies by vehicle |
| Kilometres | Lower mileage usually means higher value |
| Trim and options | AWD, 4×4, heated seats and tech packages add appeal in Calgary |
| Condition | Body damage, rust, interior wear and warning lights reduce value |
| Accident history | Prior claims can affect resale |
| Service records | Proof of maintenance builds confidence |
| Market timing | Trucks and AWD SUVs are often in higher demand heading into winter |
How to get the best offer
- Clean it inside and out. First impressions count.
- Gather your paperwork. Registration, service records and both sets of keys.
- Be upfront about issues. An accurate description means an accurate estimate.
- Fix the small stuff. Burnt-out bulbs and wiper blades are cheap to replace.
- Know your loan payout. If you still owe money, get a payout statement from your lender.
Selling a car that still has a loan
You can still sell a vehicle with an outstanding loan. The lien must be paid out as part of the sale. If the offer is higher than what you owe, the difference goes to you. If you owe more than the vehicle is worth, the shortfall needs to be covered — or, if you’re buying another vehicle, it may be possible to include it in new financing, subject to lender approval.
Paperwork for selling a vehicle in Alberta
When you sell a vehicle in Alberta, you’ll typically need:
- Valid government-issued photo ID
- The vehicle registration
- A lien payout letter, if there’s a loan
- A signed bill of sale
Remember to remove your licence plate — in Alberta, plates stay with the owner, not the vehicle — and cancel or transfer your insurance.
Dealer sale vs. private sale
A private sale might get you a little more money, but it comes with time, risk and hassle. Our guide to trading in vs. selling privately in Calgary compares both options side by side.
